The American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Political Action Committee, or The Orthopaedic PAC, needed to raise their total donations at their annual meeting, but was bound by strict practices. Without the ability to reach out to potential donors beyond their members and due to special bank security requirements, they needed a solution that could foster more donations while still playing by their rules

Challenge & Solution

Through [GiveSmart], The Orthopaedic PAC set up a gated text-to-donate page that their members could easily access. They promoted their keywords PAC to 71777 or AAOS to 41444 at member-only events and generated excitement around the option to give in this fashion.

At their annual meeting, they showcased a real-time thermometer that displayed each donor as they made donations to The Orthopaedic PAC. They also soon realized that [GiveSmart] offered peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns, something they had not initially planned to use. After successfully setting up text-to-donate and peer-to-peer campaigns, the only problem was choosing whom to contact. The [GiveSmart] app made it easy to target specific people in the AAOS database, so only those who could be contacted were contacted.

Results

Beginning with a goal of $90,000 and ending with a total collected of $116,974, the integration of text-to-donate at the event was a huge successBy expanding their approach within their boundaries, they were able to deliver results that exceeded those of traditional methods. They continue to use [GiveSmart] in innovative ways, such as having audience members text to submit questions to a guest speaker. This is a perfect example of how the power of technology can elevate engagement and participation on whole new levels.
