"It’s a breath of fresh air to know the Momentive team cares about our association and is willing to spend hours supporting our issues. I submitted a case yesterday, but I didn’t expect a response until the next day. Then I got an email half an hour later resolving our issue. It’s just refreshing to know that there is someone responsive on the other end. It’s a real benefit."

Since 1920, the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) has functioned as the networking bridge between government officials, private sector individuals, and organizations. SAME serves 27,000 individual members who work for organizations like the Army Corps of Engineers, the Navy Civil Engineer Corps, and the Air Force Civil Engineer Center, as well as 1,500 company members in the national defense and military construction industry. The organization offers annual conferences, events, and programs, as well as educational webinars, professional development opportunities, and STEM engineering and construction camps. Chapters are also a vital aspect of SAME, with the organization hosting 99 chapters both nationally and internationally.
Challenge & Solution
In 2018, SAME decided it had outgrown its legacy system. Using its old software, SAME staff had limited access to reporting, which was complicated and restrictive. Only the administrator could modify and pull most reports and had to know SQL to code and build reports. Chapter management, a crucial aspect of the organization, was another pain point for SAME. The legacy database was unable to report on chapter leaders holding multiple positions, nor could the chapter leaders update their chapter rosters or communicate efficiently with their chapter members, which reduced chapter leader self-sufficiency and created barriers to their success.
Because SAME staff faced multiple product limitations with its legacy software, the association hired a consultant to guide them through the current digital landscape. Starting with six AMS vendors, SAME narrowed the list to three: one Salesforce-based AMS (Nimble AMS), one Microsoft-based AMS, and one proprietary AMS. In the end, Nimble AMS prevailed due to its innovative solutions for associations, particularly in reporting, chapter, and committee management.
SAME looks to build bridges with its members and key industry stakeholders and chose Nimble AMS because it’s geared towards collaboration. For example, with Nimble AMS, SAME employees can simplify their chapter management by leveraging reports, assigning chapter roles, creating portals, and empowering members as chapter leaders.
Results
Since SAME has implemented Nimble AMS, they’ve observed a major technological leap. With SAME’s former legacy software, only the administrator could access and update reports, so some were impossible to complete, while others would take an entire day to resolve. Now with Nimble AMS, reports are quick, intuitive, and user-friendly, empowering all employees to use the feature.
